Access to new resource related to protecting oceans and sea life added to PM World Library
22 April 2021 – Arlington, VA, USA – A new resource has been added to the PM World Library (PMWL) related to protecting special ocean areas. The new resource titled “Blue Nature Alliance“ is an ambitious global partnership that collaborates with governments, NGOs, Indigenous peoples, and scientists to advance effective large-scale ocean conservation.
The Blue Nature Alliance engages locally in new and existing ocean conservation areas. These efforts build on the momentum required to achieve the global target of conserving at least 30% of the ocean by 2030. And sustainably managing the rest to safeguard the ocean’s biodiversity, build resilience to climate change, and enhance the function and connectivity of the ecosystem. To help achieve that goal, the Alliance aims to catalyze 18 million square kilometers (7 million square miles) of the ocean conservation over five years.
The Blue Nature Alliance is a global partnership founded and led by Conservation International, The Pew Charitable Trusts, The Global Environment Facility, Minderoo Foundation, and the Rob & Melani Walton Foundation. The Alliance is staffed by former MPA managers, technical experts, scientists, story-tellers, social scientists, economists, explorers, collaborators, and coalition-builders at Conservation International and The Pew Charitable Trusts. Our growing network of partners includes world-renowned ocean conservation experts, scientists, communities of practice, and financial strategists who have the shared goal of conserving at least 30% of the global ocean and sustainably managing the rest.
