14 October 2024 – Rawalpindi, Pakistan – Access to a new resource has been added to the PM World Library (PMWL) related to Best Practices in Project Management. The new resource is a paper titled “Best Practices and Implementation Challenges in Effective Project Management”, by Sreekumar Menon and published in Canadian Center of Science and Education in 2024.
This research paper explores best practices in project management and the challenges organizations face in implementing them. Effective project management practices, such as establishing a Project Management Office (PMO), adopting the right methodology, and developing project manager competencies, are essential for delivering successful projects. The paper highlights that the use of tools like the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) and methodologies such as Agile can help improve project outcomes. Also, organizations must also manage risks, changes, and stakeholder expectations effectively. Benchmarking against top-performing organizations helps identify areas for improvement and ensures projects align with strategic goals.
The paper also addresses several challenges, such as unsupportive top management, ineffective PMOs, and insufficient project planning. The critical success factor (CSF) approach, pioneered by Rockart and others, identifies key areas that influence project success, emphasizing the importance of leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement. The paper concludes that by tackling these challenges and capitalizing best practices, organizations can enhance project success rates and achieve their business objectives.
