Access to new information about project management in rail transport industries added to PM World Library

08 March 2018 – Mumbai, India – Access to a new resource has been added to the PM World Library on the subject of project management in rail transport industries. The new resource is titled “An integrated approach using AHP-ER to supplier selection in railway projects'', published on the website of ScienceDirect.
A project can be successfully completed and delivered when the project finishes its works within the time, within the budget and with desired quality. The materials required should be delivered on right time with desired quality which plays a critical role in the project success. Approximately 40% of the overall budget of the project is constituted by the cost of materials.
In this paper the problems in supplier selection have been categorized into two groups:
- To investigate the criteria that may be considered in the supplier selection process and to determine these criteria’ importance levels
- To propose various tools, methods, and methodologies for selecting the right supplier. Each of these previous studies has considerably improved the supplier selection process
This study proposes an integrated approach, which integrates Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Evidential Reasoning (ER) to help companies in selecting the most appropriate supplier in their projects. The AHP method is used to find the weights of the selection criteria and the ER method is used to rank the alternative suppliers. In the case study, five different rail suppliers are ranked according to eight evaluation criteria by using the proposed approach.
