Access to study results on reasons for failure of major IT projects added to PMWL

6 June 2017 – Almaty, Kazakhstan – A new resource has been added to the PM World Library related to IT project management. The new resource is titled “Why Do Information Technology Projects Fail?” The article was authored by Adam Alami in Australia and published in 2016 by Elsevier Ltd.
Article describes research on factors that affect the success and failure of projects in IT sphere. According to a 2009 IDC (International Data Corporation) report on improving IT project outcomes, 25% of IT projects experience outright failure. Based on the same report, up to 50% of the projects require material rework. Researchers conducted retrospective study of two major technological projects in order to understand the root cause of their failure. The analysis showed that the main reasons for the failure of some of these projects may have included: Unbalanced ecosystems characterized by volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and unknowns; Delivering complex transformation with time constraint and poor project management practice.
