Words have meaning. Many words have multiple meanings in the English language. Many words carry emotional weight, generate emotional reactions. Accurate and effective communication is widely recognized as critical to successful program/project management (P/PM). While P/PM - specific words, terms and phrases are important, a clear understanding of many other words is also often needed (and should be agreed) by both senders and receivers of project communications. The English language dictionaries shown below are offered to help improve P/PM communications.

Macmillan English Dictionary - Macmillan is an internationally recognised publisher of encyclopedias, dictionaries and reference works. The award-winning Macmillan English Dictionary was first published in 2002. Oxford English Dictionary - Oxford University has been making dictionaries for more than 150 years. Today OxfordDictionaries.com focuses on current English and includes all the main current meanings and uses of words, gathered by analysing and monitoring data from the Oxford Corpus. It’s based on our long history of creating the most comprehensive and up-to-date dictionaries, and includes many thousands of new words in regular updates. In August 2015 we supplemented OxfordDictionaries.com by adding more than 80,000 words from the OED for which we have evidence of use since 1950.
