Like any library, the PM World Library (PMWL) is intended to provide educational resources for members. Continuous learning is emphasized because program and project management is generally practiced by professionals who already posses one or more university degrees. In fact, project managers are often some of the most educated professionals in the world. While the question of whether project management is a profession or not is still hotly debated, the Project Management Institute (PMI) has determined that a very high percentage of project management professionals hold graduate degrees - master's and PhD degrees.
Formal education is seldom enough for managing most programs and projects, however. Generally a good deal of experience is needed. That said, neither formal education nor experience alone provide enough knowledge for managing many of the new and challenging projects being undertaken today. Continuous learning is absolutely necessary. The PM World Library has been established to provide resources for continuous learning related to program/project management (P/PM).
