29 April 2020 – Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria – Access to a new resource has been added to the PM World Library (PMWL) related to Project Management and Careers and Jobs. The new resource is titled “7 Project Manager Career Path Insights from the Experts”, by Michael Masters and published in ProjectInsight in 2018.
The resource is aimed at providing information and guidance for project managers or intending project managers to help them navigate their choices in the field. Below is a summary of seven (7) points discussed:
- Job Satisfaction is a Side Effect of Good Project Planning: This point focused on ways to eliminate frustration and keep everyone feeling productive and engaged.
- Networking is at the Heart of PM Career Advancement: Career advancement relies on networking; the relationships we build from relating with others, with the need to balance work and our relationship with fellow colleagues.
- Negative Experiences are Learning Opportunities for Professional Project Managers: It is advised that a project manager learns from experiences, including the negative ones. Doing so provides a competitive advantage.
- Preparation is Key to Project Management Success: Preparation helps to foresee problems and formulate ways to deal with them even before they occur.
- Learn the Language but Avoid the Buzzwords: Learn the vocabulary associated with project management, but do not let it interfere with the best means of communicating with fellow teammates.
- Learn from Others’ Project Management Mistakes: Take time to learn from errors of other managers so as to avoid something similar in future projects.
- Your Career Path Won’t Look Exactly Like Anyone Else’s: Though there could exist similarities in your career path and others, it might not always be the same. There could be ups and downs but never let it deter your determination
