Resource provided by Ishitha Doniparthi

5 April 2026 – Mumbai, India – Access to a new resource has been added to the PM World Library (PMWL) related to the circular economy, stakeholder engagement and project management. The new resource is titled “Driving Circular Economy in Project Management: Effective Stakeholder Management for Sustainable Outcome,” an open-access article by Yetunde Adenike Adebayo, Augusta Heavens Ikevuje, Jephta Mensah Kwakye, and Andrew Emuobosa Esiri, published in GSC Advanced Research and Reviews in 2024.

The article explores how circular economy principles can be integrated into project management to enhance sustainability and resource efficiency. It highlights the transition from traditional linear models (“take-make-dispose”) to circular systems focused on reuse, recycling, and lifecycle optimization. The study emphasizes that applying circular principles in project planning, design, and execution can significantly reduce environmental impact while improving resource utilization.

A key focus of the paper is the role of effective stakeholder management in enabling circular economy adoption. The study explains how both internal stakeholders (project teams and management) and external stakeholders (suppliers, customers, regulators, and communities) must be actively engaged to ensure alignment with sustainability goals. Strategies such as stakeholder mapping, collaborative decision-making, transparent communication, and partnership-building are identified as critical enablers of successful circular initiatives.

The research also outlines practical strategies for integrating circular economy principles into project management, including setting clear sustainability targets, incorporating lifecycle thinking, adopting resource-efficient materials, and implementing recycling and reuse mechanisms. The case studies discussed in the paper (page 6) demonstrate successful applications of circular practices, such as service-based models and recycling-driven project designs, highlighting measurable environmental and economic benefits.

The study concludes that integrating circular economy principles with effective stakeholder management enables projects to achieve sustainable outcomes, improve resource efficiency, and contribute to long-term environmental and economic value creation.
