Addressing Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Together: A Global Assessment of Agriculture and Forestry Projects

Analysis of Project Design Documents in Agriculture and Forestry Projects

20 January 2016 – Edinburgh, UK – A new resource has been added to the PM World Library related to projects and project management in agriculture and forestry. The new resource is titled “Addressing Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Together: A Global Assessment of Agriculture and Forestry Projects.”

160120 - Setiawan 1 - IMAGEThis paper analyses whether existing climate change projects in agriculture and forestry consider both adaptation and mitigation goals. For adaptation, three goals were considered: social adaptation, agricultural adaptation, and ecosystem adaptation. The authors adopted a semi quantitative approach for reviewing 201 project design documents (PDDs) describing adaptation and mitigation projects under different portfolios of national programs, global instruments, funds or certification standards. Few adaptation PDDs considered mitigation explicitly. Nearly half of mitigation PDDs explicitly reported a contribution to adaptation.
