Analysis of small projects post implementation phases – common key factors for long-term success
15 January 2016 – Milan, Italy – A new resource has been added to the PM World Library related to projects and project management in developing countries. The new resource is titled “A cross-sectional review: Impacts and sustainability of small-scale renewable energy projects in developing countries”.
Access to affordable energy services is a key element in lowering poverty among poor areas. The paper analyzes 23 projects in developing countries, aiming at identifying which are the determinants of successful ones. The findings of the authors enlighten some key elements that could predict the long-term sustainability of these projects.
After being implemented, it is necessary to achieve the sustainability of small-scale projects and develop the most suitable design for them. Doing so, the uncertainty of investments would be lower and the number of projects greater. Empirical evidence suggests that sustainability of small-scale energy implementations (≤100 kW) is determined by common factors, independent of the socio-cultural, political and ecological context.
