10 May 2026 – Mumbai, India – Access to a new resource has been added to the PM World Library (PMWL) related to cross-cultural project management and IT project management effectiveness. The new resource is titled “The Impact of Cultural Factors on IT Project Management Effectiveness: Developing the CROSS Cycle Framework for Multicultural Teams,” an open-access article by Nazarii Mazur, Nataliya Chukhray, and Ivanna Dronyuk, published in Applied Sciences in 2025.
The article examines how cultural dimensions influence IT project management effectiveness in multicultural teams. The study investigates factors such as power distance, individualism, uncertainty avoidance, and communication styles, demonstrating how these dimensions affect collaboration, innovation, leadership, and project outcomes in global IT environments.
The research introduces the CROSS Cycle Framework, a structured methodology designed to improve multicultural team performance. The framework consists of five key stages: Culture Recognition, Role Alignment, Organizational Adaptation, Synergy Building, and Sustainability. As illustrated in the framework model on page 12, the CROSS cycle integrates cultural intelligence into project management methodologies to enhance communication, adaptability, and long-term collaboration.
The study utilized data collected from 127 IT professionals across 23 countries and applied analytical techniques including regression analysis, cluster analysis, decision trees, and structural equation modeling. The findings identified three major cultural team profiles Moderate Pragmatists, Structure-Oriented Teams, and Diversity Enthusiasts each requiring different leadership and management approaches.
The paper also presents practical implementation guidelines for integrating the CROSS framework into Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, and hybrid project management methodologies. The implementation roadmap on pages 18–20 outlines step-by-step processes for cultural assessment, role alignment, training, adaptation, and sustainability monitoring. Organizations implementing the framework reported improvements in productivity, innovation, collaboration, and team trust.
The study concludes that cultural intelligence and structured cultural adaptation are becoming critical success factors in global IT project management. The proposed CROSS framework offers organizations a practical approach for improving multicultural collaboration and achieving sustainable project success.
