Dr. William A. Moylan, PhD, PMP, FESD, DTM, Professor Emeritus, is a retired Associate Professor of Eastern Michigan University’s College of Engineering & Technology, where he taught Construction Management for 18 years. Presently, he continues to consult major industrial and public sector clients on developing and implementing Project Management within their organizations. He also presents short courses and professional training seminars in basic and applied project management and PM software applications. He occasionally engages in public speaking and providing expert testimony on construction management and construction / industrial safety.
Dr. Moylan has extensive professional experience in all aspects of program and project management, including over eleven years internationally with the Arabian American Oil Company. Overall, he has worked on construction and facility design projects within the sectors of commercial, industrial, heavy construction, infrastructure, and residential development for facility clients in oil & gas production, petroleum & refining, chemical processing, energy, academic, federal government, municipal, public service, non-government organization, automotive, and manufacturing industries.
In June 2005, Dr. Moylan completed his PhD. in Organization & Management with specialization in Leadership from the Capella University School of Business & Technology. His dissertation research was on values-based leadership concepts, values and skills, and its application to building ethical partnerships in the construction industry. Dr. Moylan received his BS in Construction Engineering from Lawrence Technological University in 1974, and, his Masters degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1980, majoring in Project Management and minoring in International Business. He is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) through the Project Management Institute (PMI).
Dr. Moylan is active in a variety of professional societies and civic activities, including ASCE, ESD, PMI, Toastmasters International, Habitat for Humanity. Within PMI, Dr. Bill has been active in the Great Lakes Chapter having served as VP-Community Outreach [2017-2018] and VP-Professional Development [2015-2016]. Previously, he served on the PMI global Board of Directors for two 3-year terms [2008-2013], Standards, Certification, and other Component leadership committees. Within the Engineering Society of Detroit (ESD), Dr. Bill is active in the Tech Century Editorial Board, Future City Competition, and Construction & Design Committee. Dr. Bill is Trustee of the St. Vincent Sarah Fisher Center Board of Directors, and a member of the Facilities & Real Estate Development Committee for the University of Detroit Jesuit High & Academy. Active in Toastmasters International, Dr. Bill has been recognized with seventeen (17) Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) awards, won numerous speech contests and commendations, and, is an active leader at the District and the Club levels.
