Major programs and projects to improve access to computing and communication technologies, or to upgrade capabilities and systems have been launched in many countries by governments, international development organizations and industrial organizations. Some have been successful, others have encountered setbacks. Access to information about a few of those big initiatives are provided below.

The FATİH Project - Movement to Increase Opportunities and Technology or Fatih Project is a project of the Turkish government to integrate state-of-the-art computer technology into Turkey's public education system. Then-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan initiated the project in 2010. All state schools from preschools all the way to high school level were to receive a total of 620,000 smart boards, while tablet computers were to be distributed to 17 million students and approximately one million teachers and administrators.
