Homelessness is now a widespread problem in the United States. It is an even bigger problem in many other countries, either as a result of conflict, corruption, economic weakness or other social issues. Some governments and non governmental organizations (NGOs) have launched programs and projects to address homelessness. Crisis – UK’s National Charity for Homeless People - Crisis was formed in 1967, as an urgent response to the growing homelessness crisis. Since then they have helped tens of thousands of people out of homelessness, and campaigned for the changes needed to solve it altogether. Crisis operates in England, Scotland and Wales. Raising the Roof - Launched in 1996 by members of the Canadian Non-Profit Housing Foundation, Raising the Roof is a national charity dedicated to finding long-term solutions to homelessness. The organization provides national leadership on long-term solutions to homelessness through partnership and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, investment in local communities, and public education.
