25th May 2024 – Rawalpindi, Pakistan – Access to a new resource has been added to the PM World Library (PMWL) related to Innovation. The new resource is titled “Factors contributing to innovation readiness in health care organizations: a scoping review”, by Monique W. van den Hoed, Ramona Backhaus, Erica de Vries, Jan P. H. Hamers and Ramon Daniëls, and published in BMC Health Services Research in 2022.
The article explores the elements that make healthcare organizations more prepared to adopt and implement innovations. The review synthesizes findings from 44 studies, predominantly conducted since 2011 and mainly in hospital settings. The analysis categorizes the factors contributing to the innovation readiness of healthcare organizations into four main areas: strategic course for innovation, climate for innovation, leadership for innovation, and commitment to innovation. These categories are further broken down into ten sub-factors that detail specific aspects influencing innovation readiness.
The key findings of the article suggest that a supportive climate for innovation, characterized by organizational support, management support, and a culture that encourages creativity and risk-taking, is essential for an innovative healthcare organization. Leadership, particularly transformational and situational leadership, also plays a significant role in fostering an environment conducive to innovation. The strategic alignment of innovation goals with the overall corporate strategy which involves establishing a clear vision and direction for innovation efforts, as well as the commitment of individuals at all levels emphasizing the importance of individual and collective dedication to embracing and implementing new ideas, are essential for enhancing innovation readiness. This understanding can help healthcare managers systematically embed innovation within their organizations.
This resource should be useful for those involved with projects in healthcare or innovation in organizations.
