e-Governance in the state of Andhra Pradesh

Access to new resource related to e-Governance added to PM World Library

18 January 2019 – Mumbai, India – Access to a new resource has been added to the PM World Library (PMWL) related to e-Governance. The new resource is titled “Effectiveness and Efficiency of e-Governance in Andhra Pradesh”. It discusses a major e-gov initiative in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India.

Electronic governance or e-governance is the application of information and communication technology(ICT) in order to create a “Simple, Moral, Accountable, Responsive and Transparent(SMART) governance for delivering government services exchange of information, communication transactions, integration of various stand-alone systems and services between government-to-citizen (G2C), government-to-business (G2B), government-to-government (G2G), government-to-employees (G2E) as well as back-office processes and interactions within the entire government framework.

Objectives of e-governance in AP:

  • Improving transparency and providing information speedily to citizens.
  • Efficient delivery of public services such as transportation, power, water, health and security.
  • Providing single window clearance service.
  • Association of backend operations across all departments to have seamless flow of information.

Government of Andhra Pradesh has always been at the forefront of implementing e-governance having pioneered popular projects like CARD, eSeva, Mee Seva, E-Procurement, Smart Pulse Survey. Andhra Pradesh is a pioneer in providing 725 e-governance services in rural areas.

The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet has approved the implementation of ₹2,400-crore for e-Pragati project, a comprehensive e-governance project simplifying the process of delivery of government and citizen services. The major components of e-Pragati revolve around 7 missions, 5 grids and 5 campaigns. These include AP Fibre Grid up to all gram panchayats, AP State Data Centre to host all the data and applications, e-Highway to seamlessly connect all the departments digitally and People Hub to house all the socio-economic data of the citizens for effective implementation of welfare schemes and development programmes.
