25th April 2024 – Rawalpindi, Pakistan – Access to a new resource has been added to the PM World Library (PMWL) related to Innovation, Sustainability, and Quality. The new resource is titledDoes quality management system help organizations in achieving environmental innovation and sustainability goals? A structural analysis, a research paper by Long Zhao, Jianqiang Gu, Jawad Abbas, Dervis Kirikkaleli and Xiao-Guang Yue, published in Economic Research-Ekonomska Istraživanja in 2023.

The research investigated the impact of Quality Management Systems (QMS) on environmental innovation and Corporate Sustainable Development (CSD) in medium and large-sized manufacturing and services firms. With the depletion of natural resources and growing public awareness, there's increasing pressure on firms to adopt eco-friendly practices. Results showed a significant positive relationship between QMS and environmental innovation, contrary to some previous studies but aligning with others. QMS encompasses continuous improvement, customer focus, and efficient resource utilization, fostering innovation capabilities to meet customer and regulatory requirements.

The study also found a positive and significant effect of QMS on CSD, indicating that QMS facilitates firms in achieving sustainability goals. This supports previous research linking Total Quality Management (TQM) with organizational and economic sustainability. Environmental innovation was also found to have a significant positive impact on CSD, indicating that green innovation activities contribute to organizational sustainability, consistent with prior findings. Overall, the study emphasizes integrating quality management practices with environmental innovation and sustainable development strategies as essential for effectively addressing environmental challenges.
